Job Description

The Coker Research Lab and Center for Clinical and Translational Research seeks a skilled and motivated Research Specialist to join our dynamic research team. The successful candidate will play an important role in advancing our understanding of dental diseases and HIV-associated complications through cutting-edge research. Reporting to the CCTR leadership, the Research Specialist will conduct advanced research projects, interpreting and analyzing complex data derived from in vivo and in vitro specimens. The role requires a solid computational background to examine molecular and cellular changes, contributing to groundbreaking research initiatives.

In addition to conducting research, the Research Specialist will assist in mentoring a team of postdoctoral researchers, students, and junior staff, fostering a collaborative environment where innovative ideas can flourish. This involves supporting the team in the design and execution of quantitative research projects, encompassing proposal development, survey design, data collection, qualitative analysis, and report writing. The specialist will also contribute to the development of scientific literature, reports, manuscripts, and publications to disseminate research findings effectively.

The role includes maintaining the biorepository of samples related to ongoing projects, ensuring the lab's inventory and equipment are managed and fully functional. The specialist will assist the Principal Investigator with financial and budgetary oversight, ensuring that the lab's financial resources are utilized efficiently. Compliance with safety standards is paramount, and the Research Specialist will ensure the laboratory adheres to all relevant regulations and protocols.

Job Responsibilities
  • Performs research in support of assigned projects. Interprets and analyzes results/data and ensures accurate logs and records are maintained. Projects include, but not limited to research initiatives including sophisticated analysis of in vivo and in vitro specimens as well as examining molecular and cellular changes as related to dental disease and HIV associated complications (computational expertise is preferred).
  • Assists in training and guiding postdocs, students and junior team members in laboratory practices and techniques. Supports the research team in designing and conducting quantitative research and development projects including, but not limited to: proposal development, research/survey design, data collection, qualitative analysis, and report writing. Supports in the development of literature, reports, manuscripts and publications.
  • Maintains the biorepository of samples related to projects and ensures adequate lab inventory and supplies as well as lab equipment are maintained.
  • Supports PI in reviewing financial/budget reports of the lab.
  • Ensures lab compliance to applicable safety standards.
  • Performs other duties assigned.
